Vanguard is perhaps the deepest, richest, most complex, and potentially
most satisfying MMO available right now, but it is not for the casual
player and it is not easy. Vanguard is verymuch a work in
progress. Vanguard is a very good game with a lot of
potential. Vanguard isa deep game, with a combat system that will
have a bit of a learning curve, butthis is a game that is rapidly
beginning to look like an MMO that will raise thebar and perhaps change
the way we look at the genre. Vanguard is not a shallow, easy, or
immediately gratifying game, but I enjoy it a lot and I look forward to
watching it develop and grow. Vanguard is muchmore than I could
ever have hoped.
Characters
All you have to dois log in and your characters will be waiting for you. Characters can move through the various environments, bantering back and forth between each other and performing actions as often as they'd like, such as equipping weapons and shields or resting. Characters animate well, particle effects are decent, and there are some nice lighting effects as well. Characters tend to look identical and the environments are often muted with a murky appearance. Characters in "Vanguard" can be adventurers, diplomats or crafters, or all three.
Vanguard is certainly playable, but you’ve got to work pretty hard to make it enjoyable. Vanguard is a fantasy MMORPG with a massive world and tons of character classes and races to choose from. Vanguard is, at least in the two weeks we've played it, a game built on experience and lessons learned and thoroughly enjoyable, with some caveats. Vanguard is a good game, it could have been a great game.
