This is just a basic introduction to ships in Pirates of the Burning Sea. Visit
game guide publisher Killer Guides for an in-depth
PotBS game guide.
Ship battles are played out on the open seas, as you try to navigate
yourself to place your ship in proper position to deal massive damage
to the ship you are fighting. Multiple ships can be engaged at the
same time. During ship combat, a players speed, position, and heading
all affect
the ability to damage enemies and resist damage. The ship battles
focus on out maneuvering the enemy ships and releasing large amounts of
cannon blasts on the enemy to deal devastating damage. layers will be
able to participate in both ship and avatar based
gameplay, covering both ship to ship combat and avatar combat of three
different types: sword-fighting, brawling, and ranged combat. During
combat at anytime ships can move close against the enemy ship and
attempt to board. Ship speed, winddirection, and your ship's stats all
factor into how you approach a battle. Multiple players will take on
different roles during a naval battle; like repairing the ship during
combat. Once you've managed to reach an enemy ship, you're taken to
their decks
for a boarding battle. Better still, you can actually have a friend in
the same battle board the ship with you and fight together as a team.
Ships can be constructed and maintained by players. Ships, for example,
are made of ship hulls, which are made of planks, which are cut from
trees. Ships of different sizes will also have different cargo hold
sizes. Along with this, the ship hull needs nails, which are made from
iron,
which is refined from iron ore. The ship, along with the ship hull,
also needs a mast, all the cannons, several hundred yards of rope, and
more.
Of course you can also add an edge by looking into the
PotBS bots as well as the
Pirates of the Burning Sea exploits and
cheats offered on the Strategy Freaks forums.
Ships are the cornerstone of the economy. Several user-created ships
have already been accepted and integrated, and can be spotted in
screenshots shown on game sites and the official site. The game will
ship with dozens of different vessels to chose from, each with its own
advantages and disadvantages. As a general rule, the bigger the ship,
the slower it is.
There is a collision model in the game but you won't damage anyone's
ship by just running into it at full speed. There are different
advantages based on what you are as a ship as well. French guns, for
instance, are a bit more effective but their ships aren't as robust as
those of the English. Pirates have the special ship capture abilities
described above, as well as the ability to engage in PvP more easily
than the other nations, and throughout more of the game world. Ship
combat is the core of the game and we want it to be a very different
and very satisfying experience.
