Darkwind: War on Wheels
"Darkwind - War On Wheels is a turn-based 3D racing/vehicle combat MMORPG, staged both in the wilderness and in man-made arenas and racing circuits.
"The three main gameplay activities are:
- Competing in tiered racing/combat leagues (available now). League events occur at scheduled times. A variety of leagues are available, so you will be able to find one that suits you.
- On-the road travel, trade, and piracy (coming Q3 2006)
- Player control and attack of factories, camps and other key world resources (scheduled Q4 2006)"
- Darkwind is uniquely suitable for people who like competitive online games but don't have 15 hours per day to devote to them: 2 or 3 hours of gameplay per week is sufficient for competitive play.
- The game runs to a real-world time scale: for example, it typically takes several days to travel between towns, which makes trade a meaningful activity due to the real effort involved in purchasing/delivery. It takes time to upgrade/repair vehicles and heal injuries, so strategic planning is required.
- The turn-based combat system allows the game to incorporate detailed rules, and promotes genuine stratetegic play rather than a 'fastest mouse clicker' competition. Having 30 seconds for each turn, in addition to a number of 5 minute timeouts at your disposal, make the game more relaxed and sociable.
- Death is more than a minor inconvenience - when a character dies, they're dead. Permanently. Since you control a gang of characters, you can still maintain your in-game assets."
