Final Fantasy XIV Guide - A Preliminary Peek
- Published 08/24/2010
The highly anticipated 2010 MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV by Square Enix is due for release this September 2010. The game is expected to attract not only the Final Fantasy fan base but reach out to the larger MMORPG gaming community with the cleverly thought-out features that comes with the game.
One of the obvious changes is the different battle and job system compared to the previous series, Final Fantasy XI. Instead of the traditional character progression via level and experience points, Final Fantasy XIV works around the concept of skill-based progression. Thus, instead of being able to mindlessly grind and complete quest to level up, gamers have to plan out skill combinations and which skills to max out for each class to strengthen their character. This is also where Final Fantasy XIV guides comes in. Because character progression becomes more complex and requires more planning with FFXIV, guides such as a Final Fantasy XIV class guide and general Final Fantasy XIV guides are becoming available rather quickly.
The Armoury System (the Job/Class System) adds on to the complexity of the game. Although it provides more flexibility for the experienced gamer to switch between the disciples and the available classes at any given time in the game, it can be rather tricky for anyone new to MMORPGs. Final Fantasy XIV lets one single character play all the available classes. Players can switch between classes by changing the weapon they carry. The crafting system is also part of the Armoury system. Player's attire changes depending on the role they take on. For instance when wielding weapons, the character's appearance will change to resemble that of a blacksmith.
Fans of Final Fantasy wait in anticipation to begin exploring Eorzea and check out what other goodies Square Enix has in store.

Champions Online Release

The problem might be inherent in the superhero concept. After all, most superhero stories are based on there being just one or a few selected superheroes. But how do you get consistent lore where everyone possesses some kind of superpower?
Another indicator of the problems Champions Online might be facing are the lack of community sites. Champions Online Guide is one of the few newbie-oriented places, and it's just a bunch of introduction paragraphs.

Aion Release Date Announced

Aion, unlike its predecessor Lineage 2, is not supposed to be an endless world of grinding, but is going to be a more quest-based world. What fancy PRs try to tell us, is that it's going to play like WoW with wings. For gamers that means the bot-alert will only be only at orange and you'll be able to reach the maximum level within 20 days playtime. Let's see if this will pose any serious competition for Blizzard's pole position.

In terms of community sites, there is already a decent number available:
Aside from AionSource, most of them only have a handful of articles on classes, guides and screenshots taken from the chinese and US Aion beta. However, in the upcoming weeks, we'll probably see those resources expanded a lot.

Today Killer Guides opened their german portal at www.killerguides.de. This probably signifies a major step for the company. After offering already more than 100 guides in English, I was wondering when they would make the leap to another continent. German was probably their first choice due to the massive presence WoW has there.
